A Gentleman Does Not Bad Mouth Others…

“A gentleman does not bad mouth others when breaking off a relationship. A loyal retainer does not say only he was blameless when leaving his country.”

Yue Yi

Although one with a great cause might have to break off a relationship, in the end, he does not secretly raise evil talk about it due to his personal sentiments. Although one might have to unavoidably leave the province he is serving, in the end, he does not secretly say that his own name was blameless due to his previous sentiments. He musn’t display himself as a man a great virtue only outwardly.

The Second Year of Ansei, The Ninth of August. “Minutes of the Head Lecturer.”
