Sweat the Small Things

“If you let yourself become absentminded even for a short time in your daily life, when an emergency occurs you will forget your usual presence of mind. Even striving your very best, a single small thing will cause ruin. We cannot know when an emergency will occur.”
What this means is that unless you are careful about the trivial things, even great blessings will be destroyed. This is a most serious passage.

8日細行を矜まざれば
「行住坐臥、暫くも放心せば則ち必ず変に臨みて常を失ひ、一生の恪勤、一事に於て闕滅す。変の至るや知るべからず」と云ふは、細行を矜まざれば、遂に大徳を累はすと云ふと同一種の語にして、最も謹厳なる語なり。
