To Actually Follow Virtues

The teachings of loyalty, filial piety, compassion, and justice are contained in the Confucian scriptures, but ah! we cannot depend on people to actually follow them themselves.

忠孝仁義の訓は経籍にあれども、其の躬行心得に至りては豈に人に由らざらんや。

Humanity and Justice have the Same Root

Humanity and Justice have the same root; due to where they are met, the names merely differs. A parent and child’s relation is called Humanity (The parent and the affectionate child both have Humanity). A lord and retainer’s relation is called Justice. This truth flows outward from a true heart.
